As the science of teaching and learning, research in mathematics education examines the conditions and effects of mathematics instruction in schools, universities, and informal learning environments.
At the Chair of Mathematics Education at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, we focus on two key questions: first, what knowledge and competences mathematics teachers need to deliver high-quality instruction and how they acquire them; and second, how instructional processes can be adapted based on learning diagnostics. Cross-cultural comparative approaches help us gain a deeper understanding of what characterizes high-quality mathematics instruction.
