Abstract

Single crystals of 0.5 at.% Eu-doped KNbO3 were grown using the vertical Bridgman method with two different crucible shapes. Growth conditions were determined by temperature-dependent X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. As a result, millimeter-sized single crystals in the orthorhombic phase were produced. X-ray fluorescence analysis showed that the Eu content in the single crystal was approximately the target concentration. Additionally, the valence state of Eu was examined through X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) measurement, which indicated the presence of both trivalent and divalent Eu ions.
