Abstract

Achieving a uniform distribution of a gas flow into a specific number of partial flows poses a challenge in various fields and can be accomplished using static flow distributors. This task becomes more challenging if the number of active outlets can vary, meaning that individual outlets may be shut down. The presented concept of a flow distributor with four outlets solves the problem of maintaining uniform distribution to partial flows under different configurations of closed outlets. In a first step, the distributor is investigated numerically by performing 3D-Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) simulations. The second step consists of an experimental investigation of the additively manufactured distributor using a two-axis displacement system and a pitot tube. For all investigated configurations of open outlets, the distributor evenly divides the inlet flow among the open outlets, regardless of the volumetric flow rate value.
