This paper examines the role of epistemic trust between non-experts and scientific experts, in particular how moral responsibility influences the dynamics of trust. The paper analyzes the conditions under which the moral responsibility of scientific experts is relevant to the interests of non-experts and how normative expectations shape epistemic trust. Based on the distinction between trust and reliance, the first section argues that epistemic trust has a particular moral dimension, which is grounded in normative expectations. The second section criticizes the philosophy of science and social epistemology literature for neglecting this moral dimension, even when shared values are discussed. The third section shows how this moral dimension can be seen as a component of epistemic trust in experts. Finally, the fourth section discusses the specific ethical communication duties of giving scientific expert testimony that arise from this understanding of epistemic trust
