A new family of 45S5 Bioglass®-based scaffolds with local drug delivery capability was developed and characterized. The basic scaffold fabricated by the foam replica technique was impregnated with zoledronic acid and coated with poly(L-lactic acid) resulting in scaffolds with improved compressive strength in comparison with non-coated scaffolds and exhibiting the ability to deliver zoledronic acid in a controlled manner.
