Scientific Abstract

Optogenetics – genetically enabled light-dependent control of neuronal function - has substantial therapeutic potential for neurodegenerative diseases including Parkinson’s Disease (PD). This project aims to generate and characterize optogenetic tools enabling light and pathway-specific activation of dopaminergic signalling. Direct targeting of the neuromodulatory circuits and signalling pathways has the potential to overcome some of the current limitations in PD therapy.
