The Collaborative Research Center 1750 [in:just] – “Inclusion – Recognition – Justice. Participation and Belonging in Processes of Growing Up” examines the conditions under which participation and Belonging are enabled, limited, or denied during the process of growing up. The focus is on analyzing the relationship between participation and belonging in the educational and socialization processes of children, adolescents, and young adults. The SFB combines perspectives from educational science, sociology, law, philosophy, geography, and information science to clarify how social orders open up, structure, and regulate participation, and under what conditions this gives rise to engagement as effective belonging. Particular attention is paid to the tensions between normative promises, institutional practices, and subjective experiences.
