Short description

This report discusses important market trends that may affect flexibility needs as well as technical options and policy measures that may add flexibility in the Central European energy markets, with a particular focus on Germany and the Netherlands. It further evaluates different flexibility options against their benefits and drawbacks. Moreover, the report employs an econometric model and high-frequency data to analyze German and Dutch electricity prices and trade flows, and how these react to changes in fundamental variables, as predicted by our market trends analysis. Finally, the report draws important conclusions about the value of flexibility options in an electricity market of the future.
