Project details

Short description

This research project addresses the question of possible effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the employment status of people with disabilities. On the one hand, it will be investigated whether a particularly pronounced increase in job losses can be demonstrated for the especially vulnerable group of employees with disabilities after the onset of the pandemic compared to the labor force, and which factors influence the probability of job loss. Second, the changes in re-employment chances among unemployed persons with disabilities and their protective and risk factors are analyzed. Demographic and employment-related characteristics (such as migration status, educational attainment, skill level, and gender) and social factors are examined as possible moderating factors. In addition, three possible effect factors of the damaging effect of the pandemic on the labor market situation of people with disabilities are analyzed in more detail, namely COVID-19-related worries and fears, self-efficacy expectations, and social support. The evaluations take into account the varying severity of officially recognized disabilities and other self-reported subjective health status and disease groups.
The timeliness and relevance of the project is very high, because the research project analyzes processes that lead to particularly detrimental effects for the integration of a vulnerable social group into the labor market in a social crisis situation.
