Short description

In the EU, about 80 million people live with a more or less severe disability - that is more than 15 percent of the entire European population. Disabilities restrict those affected in their daily lives to varying degrees in different areas. Despite the experienced limitations, there is a great desire among those affected, their relatives and friends to lead a life that is as self-determined and independent as possible in their own home and to be as little dependent as possible on third-party assistance. The skilful use of smart home / AAL technologies, which are by now generally available and affordable, can make an enormous contribution to people with different disabilities enabling them to lead a more active, self-determined, independent and socially integrated life.

The SWEET HOME project aims to support people with different types of disabilities (Down syndrome, visual impairment, hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, renal disease) to lead a more self-determined life in their own homes by means of smart technologies. The training offers to be developed will focus on different topics, such as health care and monitoring, personal care, home comfort, home security, home mobility, cleaning, energy saving, entertainment, social participation, use of e-learning offers. Training will be provided for professionals such as caregivers, social pedagogues, occupational therapists, psychologists, for relatives or even for the disabled person him/herself.

In order to achieve the overall objective, the SWEET HOME project foresees the following milestones:

The SWEET HOME project will develop 3 key project results which will be open and free to the general public both during the project lifetime and in subsequent years:

  1. Development of 7 reports/guides: For each group of the 7 types of disabilities considered (Down syndrome, blindness and visual impairment, hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy, Alzheimer's disease, cystic fibrosis, kidney disease), a guide will be developed, highlighting everyday problems and challenges, possible solutions and recommendations with regard to the use of smart home technologies.
  2. Development of a course curriculum as well as 3 multilingual e-learning courses: the courses will include enriched slides, step-by-step explanations, practical exercises and videos on the topic of domotics / AAL in connection with the promotion of a more self-determined life in one's own home, differentiated according to different areas of life (health care and monitoring, personal care, home comfort, home security, home mobility, cleaning, energy saving, entertainment, social participation, use of e-learning offers).
  3. Development of a multilingual interactive learning platform with free access to all training materials, adapted for the use on different devices such as PCs, laptops, tablets or smartphones, tested by different stakeholders and improved according to their suggestions.
