Scientific Abstract

In the last few years there has been a rapidly growing range of e-learning courses and an increasing number of participants. Up to now, online learning has been used in particular by adults with a medium to higher socio-economic status. But how effective is participation in open online courses for the learner? Politicians also emphasize that it is necessary to improve the accessibility of qualitative and quantitative information about the performance of graduates from different educational settings. In order to compensate for this lack of information in the area of learning with MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), the ASTRE project proposes a system for evaluating MOOCs with regard to their effectiveness. The tasks of the project are as follows:

Development of a tracking system for MOOC learners based on quantitative and qualitative surveys with MOOC graduates

Pilot testing of the tracking system and revision

Support of MOOC providers who want to integrate the tracking system into their quality assurance. ASTRE thus aims to improve the quality of MOOCs and their attractiveness for a wide range of participants.

Overall, the EU member states Spain, Germany, Greece, Cyprus and Italy, including four universities, the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC) and a society that deals with the rise of e-learning, are involved in ASTRE. The project should reach around 40,000 people in its two-year implementation.
