Scientific Abstract

The synthesis of noble metal nanoparticles in various shapes and sizes is of high importance for many applications. Mostly, the preparation of these nanoparticles is done in aqueous solutions via a wet-chemical approach where micelle forming surfactants are involved as catalysts, structure directing agents and stabilizers. The main focus of roject A3 is to gain a deeper understanding of the interaction between inorganic noble metal nanoparticles and amphiphilic micelles. These interactions seem to play a crucial role in the formation, stabilization and degradation of such particles. We use small angle X-ray (SAXS) and neutron scattering (SANS) in combination with UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy to characterize the nanoparticles and micelles.
