Scientific Abstract

Within the scope of the collaboration project between the Institute of Engineering Design (KTmfk) and the LFT, microstructures are developed especially for the tribological system of cam follower matchings, as a representative of highly loaded revolving sliding contacts, with the objective of friction reduction. A focus of the project is the technological realization of components with microstructured surfaces by a combined extrusion micro coining process coping with the demands of large-lot production. Due to filigree dimensions of microsructures surface characterization is of vital importance as a junction between the design of micro coining tools and the manufacturing of microstructured components. In a near-operation test rig a friction reduction of up to 17% was realized by microstructured surfaces in comparison to polished surfaces.
