Abstract

Emerging wireless technologies, including 5G and envisioned 6G systems, operate at higher frequencies and power densities than earlier generations, increasing the need for reliable evaluation of electromagnetic (EM) exposure and the resulting thermal effects in human tissues. At the same time, compact wearable electronics can contribute additional, highly localized heating near the head. This paper introduces an integrated EM-thermal computational framework in which targeted infrared (IR) thermography experiments on tissue-mimicking phantoms are used to inform key process parameters. Specifically, measured surface temperature data are paired with inverse heat-transfer analysis to estimate effective thermal parameters and device-related heat generation characteristics. These experimentally informed inputs are then embedded in a three-dimensional bioheat model of the human head. Spatially resolved EM power deposition is represented via specific absorption rate (SAR) fields computed with full-wave simulation and imported as volumetric heat sources into the thermal solver, enabling coupled EM-bioheat calculations. Predicted temperature elevations are compared across exposure metrics (pointwise, 1 g-averaged SAR, 10 g-averaged SAR), and under scenarios with and without bioheat sources and with and without device self-heating.
