Abstract

This chapter discusses whether and how geopolitical uncertainties could affect responsible business conduct around the globe. It first introduces key concepts to refine the type of change we are currently witnessing. It then goes on to discuss how geopolitics change the regulatory landscape that companies face around the globe, while also putting these trends into a longer-term perspective. In this section, we focus on states and regions that are of particular interest in terms of regulatory developments, namely the United States, the European Union (EU), Brazil and China. Finally, the chapter concludes and argues that current geopolitical uncertainties may only to a limited extent constitute a shift in responsible business conduct.
