The cost of cybersecurity is enormous and keeps increasing both economically and socially. It is projected that in coming years, the world might spend more on cybercrime than most countries do in their GDP. Traditional incident reports capture a restricted number of outcome variables, and it is hard to approximate the severity of an attack. The paper builds on a previous data-backed system by including more statistical tests and forward-looking insights for 2025-2026. We reconsider the Global Cybersecurity Threats data of 3,000 incidents between 2015 and 2024 and add novel performance measures and new findings of the recent academic research to the initial machine-learning pipeline. The improved analysis measures annual trends, high impact types of attacks, defense mechanisms, and the threats of supply-chain and automation. Our results emphasize the multidimensionality of the impact of cyberattacks and the need to have more contextual data and active governance.
