Abstract
This study was conducted to create a guide for researchers wishing to undertake scoping reviews. Scoping reviews are a flexible type of review used to map existing knowledge in a field, identify conceptual gaps, and create a guiding framework for future research. This study explains five fundamental steps on how to plan, conduct, and report scoping reviews. The PRISMA-ScR guide, used for reporting, is provided in the appendices of the study. Scoping reviews are a powerful type of synthesis that provides a systematic perspective on topics that are unexplored or complex, particularly in interdisciplinary fields. It guides researchers in methodological planning and transparent reporting. It is recommended that early-career researchers conduct scoping reviews to gain mastery of their fields of interest and to identify relevant gaps. In addition, an extended and comprehensive summary has been added to the end of the manuscript.
