Co-simulation is frequently used in energy research to couple models and thus represent complex energy systems accurately. Co-simulation also couples power flow models to analyze interactions between transmission and distribution networks. Iterative coupling algorithms are generally used for this purpose. The existing literature primarily focuses on describing these algorithms, while underlying interfaces, the structure, and semantics of the exchanged data are often insufficiently specified. In this paper, we present an approach to systematically model such interfaces and introduce a standardized data schema for describing the information that must be exchanged. We then demonstrate its practical applicability by coupling PyPSA and pandapower via DaceDSX using the proposed interfaces. The evaluation is based on the co-simulation of the IEEE 9-bus system and the IEEE 13-bus feeder.
