Abstract

The automated application of adhesive tape to automotive wire harnesses is a resource-intensive process. The deformable characteristics of both wire and tape challenge the development of feasible automation solutions. In this paper, different methods for bundling and coating wire harnesses are compared to show the shortcomings of existing solutions. To overcome these, a new method for bundling and coating wire harnesses is presented. The experimental setup involves the coating of bundles with varying thicknesses. The experimental findings demonstrate the applicability of the novel method to industrial requirements, and its significant potential to transform the coating of wire harnesses by providing a reliable and efficient automation solution.
