Abstract

In this work, an analog phase shifter on the basis of a dielectric image line operating in the W -band (75-110 GHz) is presented. The dielectric image line is filled with a liquid crystal which can change its relative permittivity with the direction of an external bias field relative to the electrical field of the guided mode. The phase shifter is made up of two pairs of electrodes manufactured on an FR4 substrate. The phase shifter has a minimum insertion loss of -5dB and a maximum phase difference achieved of 100°. The dielectric image line holding the liquid crystal was manufactured additively with a fused deposition modeling approach.
