Men and women, as the two opposing manifestations of the gender continuum, differ not only in terms of their anatomy and physiology but also in terms of their psychology and cognitive perception. While these differences are taken into account in specific product categories such as clothing, these aspects are underrepresented in the product development process for technical products. Therefore, in this paper we present the results of a quantitative online survey and a qualitative interview study that investigates gender as an influencing factor on user-perceived usability and emotional product design in the context of technical products. The results of this work indicate similar evaluations and perceptions of usability among men and women. Regarding the results of perceived emotional product design, clear gender differences can be identified.
