Two finds from Metropolis in 2022 offer insights into the relationship of the small city with its provincial rulers from the late Republic and the early Imperial period. Despite considerable de-struction during the Mithridatic wars (see inscription 1), the city achieved renewed prosperity and paid rich tribute to the new rulers. In the first inscription, the proconsul Gaius Fabius, as far as can be seen, has made the entire province happy with his charitable deeds. In the second in-scription, it is a member of the family (the daughter) of the city governor who proves charitable to the city and is honored for it.
