Abstract

In the 21st century, the most important competitive advantage of companies is their information and the way they use it. A key asset is the knowledge acquired from processing data on competitors’ market moves. Informed decision-making in terms of organisation strategy in healthcare can now be supported by artificial intelligence (AI) methods. This chapter elaborates on the particularities of competitive intelligence (CI) in healthcare by conducting a literature review. The scientific literature is examined with a focus on the healthcare CI cycle which collects, analyses, and communicates information to support managers. Since there is a lack of research for healthcare, further AI and big data analytics papers are considered and adapted to the context. The general requirements necessary to build a successful CI process in healthcare and specific tools are presented.
