Abstract

The appointment of Leo Hauck as the first chairman in March 1924 marks the 100 th anniversary of the establishment of university dermatology in Erlangen. This article provides an overview of the development of dermatovenerology in Erlangen from the beginning of the 20 th century to the present day. The difficult founding years were followed by stable development, which came to an abrupt end in 1945 with the death of its founder and the confiscation of the hospital by the US-American forces after the Second World War. It was not until the 1970s that the Erlangen department returned to the circle of German university dermatology. Today it is a modern research facility that ensures patient care at the highest level.
