Abstract

Manufacturing systems are undergoing a rapid and deep transformation because of new technologies as well as rapidly changing economic, social, and environmental factors. While artificial intelligence methods promise great potential regarding flexibility and productivity for manufacturing systems, there is still a lack of fully implemented and productive use cases in the industry. This paper conducted a panel survey with 856 international industry participants highlighting the current implementation status, as well as drivers and barriers. The results provide an overview and a starting point for future measures in utilizing the potential of artificial intelligence in manufacturing systems.
