Antenna impedance tuners are crucial components in modern wireless communication systems, designed to enhance antenna performance and efficiency across a broad frequency range. These devices adjust an antenna’s impedance to align with changing signal environment conditions, thereby maximizing power transfer and minimizing signal reflection. This article explores the design of ultra-low power consumption solid-state impedance tuners specifically for high RF power applications, aligned with the specifications of the Student Design Competition at the International Microwave Symposium 2024 in Washington, DC. The paper delves into the design, simulation, and evaluation processes of an impedance tuner. Additionally, an algorithm is introduced that optimizes tuner states to achieve a high figure of merit for the competition. A high-power test was also conducted to assess the harmonics generated by the tuner and to evaluate its maximum power handling capability.
