Summary: Persistent difficulty in swallowing during nonspecific esophagitis that does not respond to PPI therapy should lead to further diagnosis. This article concerns a 68-year-old female in whom lichen ruber planus was eventually found in the esophagus. This rare entity can as a rule be effectively treated with immunosuppressive drugs. © 2008 Springer Medizin Verlag.
