Abstract

waLBerla is a highly scalable HPC framework for multiphysics simulations, offering exceptional performance on modern supercomputers. In this work, we leverage waLBerla to perform large-scale fluid-solid simulations using the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) coupled with a solid phase. The simulations were executed on the JUWELS Booster cluster, utilizing its GPU-accelerated architecture to achieve high computational efficiency. Our study demonstrates excellent strong and weak scaling up to 1024 NVIDIA A100 GPUs, highlighting waLBerla’s capabilities for massively parallel simulations. Performance analysis and optimization strategies tailored for JUWELS Booster are presented, providing insights into efficient utilization of cutting-edge HPC systems for coupled multiphysics simulations.
