Abstract

In recent years, gaming has evolved into a widespread form of entertainment, permeating various facets of daily life, such as transportation. The intersection of gaming and transportation has led to innovative ideas for in-car gaming, leveraging the unique context of vehicle environments. However, a significant research gap remains in understanding user preferences, behaviors, and cross-cultural variations in in-car gaming experiences. This thesis aims to address this gap using a mixed methods approach to explore user needs and preferences, cultural influences, and design considerations for in-car gaming. Through a scoping review, surveys, interviews, and field studies, this thesis aims to gain a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon and develop design guidelines for culturally relevant and engaging in-car gaming experiences to transform gaming in vehicles and develop in-car entertainment.
