Abstract

The paperaddresses potentials and challenges of language diagnosis in VET with regard tovalid criteria for language assessment procedures and practicability of theiruse in everyday school life. The “Nuremberg Vocational Schools German Test” (NBD-T)developed by the authors is presented and discussed in the light of theserequirements and its underlying Bavarian didactic approach ‘BerufsspracheDeutsch’. This is a highly structured, standardised multi-dimensional leveltest that is administered directly and digitally. The test focuses on thepragmatic and literal basic qualifications (Ehlich 2005) of vocational schoolstudents at the beginning of their training.
