Abstract

This case study explores how a German control cabinet and electrical engineering SME has successfully navigated the challenges of intense competition and skilled labor shortages in the manufacturing sector. It focuses on their adoption of a circular economy model in response to the growing problem of electronic waste (e-waste), which has seen a significant global increase. The company's approach centers on reuse, remanufacturing, and recycling of materials, reducing environmental impact and raw material costs. This strategy has not only provided economic benefits and enhanced supply chain resilience during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic but also integrated advanced technologies for improved efficiency in recycling processes. The case study illustrates the critical role of sustainable practices and technological adaptation in ensuring the long-term success and competitiveness of SMEs in the global market.
