Abstract

This manuscript presents the new Low Passive Count Redundant Four-Level Inverter topology (LPCR-4LI) for medium voltage applications, which is based on the traditional Two-Level-Inverter (2LI) and in the Active-Neutral-Point-Clamped (ANPC) multilevel converter theory. The number of bulky capacitors is reduced in comparison to most precedent topologies, fact which make it suitable to be implemented in mobility applications. Furthermore, the addition of redundant states through this new configuration makes it suitable for robust and fault tolerant use. A simple modulation strategy is also portrayed in this paper.
