As the number of loudspeakers and microphones in modern devices grows, the task of Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) becomes increasingly computationally expensive as the echo canceller requires the optimization of a large number of adaptive filters. In this paper, an efficient frequency-domain Multiple-Input/Multiple-Output (MIMO) AEC approach is introduced using a Kronecker product-based approximation of the echo paths. In the proposed approach, the trade-off between the approximation accuracy and the computational complexity is controlled by a tuning parameter. This approach is verified for both, time-varying and time-invariant rendering systems and the results show that the proposed approach achieves steady-state performance similar to that of a conventional method at a much lower computational cost.
