Abstract

Previous articles on the current theme of neuropathology provided evidence for increasing numbers and success of epilepsy surgery and also for continuing challenges in histopathology. The spectrum of structural lesions is broad and morphological variants are being increasingly recognized. This can be covered by a well-designed healthcare system with high level education in clinical neuropathology, i. e. building blocks of topic-oriented reference centers. However, countries without such standards and resources may continuously fall behind. Preanalytical diagnostics using digital image acquisition and pattern recognition provide a great opportunity for personalized medicine. We would like to invite you to the world of petabytes and whole slide imaging and to discuss challenges and pitfalls of these new technologies.
