Abstract

Background: The medical treatment of injuries caused by violence is a manifold challenge for every health care system. Access routes play a major role in the quality of care of victims of violence. Methods: Aim of this present study was to evaluate the requirements for an interdisciplinary treatment of victims of violence. Therefore, a retrospective data analysis of patients in the context of violence of a major trauma centre was carried out. Results: The data of 7,132 patients were evaluated for this study and 347 (4.9%) victims of violence were identified. A fragmentary medical history and documentation was found in many cases. Conclusion: Through interdisciplinary care, including forensic medicine, there is a possibility for a further improvement in the care of victims of violence. © Springer-Verlag 2012.
