Abstract

Muscle injuries are denoted as „time-loss injuries“ and are commonly associated with reduced participance in training or competition. Although some injuries can be classified as mild types of muscle damage, injuries are associated with compromised muscle and sportive performances in a significant manner. Most of the injuries can be treated conservatively or nonoperatively. The aim of the present work was to provide an overview on the nonoperative treatment strategies in regard to the results of the GOTS (German-Austrian-Swiss Society for Orthopaedic Traumatologic Sports Medicine) Expert Meeting of 2016 with the focus on muscle and tendon injuries. The review includes recent considerations emphazising the initial and on-field treatment, muscle biomechanics and it's relation to ultrastructural muscle injuries.
