Abstract
Die Reefmounds im unteren Wenlock auf Gotland sind im doppelten Sinne Riffe in einem Frühstadium: Einerseits bilden sie die erste Phase in der Entwicklung der silurischen Riffkomplexe auf Gotland, andererseits stellen sie in der erdgeschichtlichen Entwicklung moderner Korallenriffe ein Beispiel früher Riffbildungen mit einer nur wenig ausgebildeten Internstruktur und Synökologie dar.
The reefmounds in the Lower Wenlockian of Gotland represent in a twofold sense early stages of reef development. On the one hand, they form the first stage in the development of the reef succession on Gotland, on the other hand, they are early examples of reef formation in the geological history of coral reefs, lacking important criteria of modern reefs like strict internal structure, framework, and complex synecology.
