Abstract

Revealing HS (bio)inorganic chemistry: The reaction between sodium nitroprusside ([Fe(CN)NO]) and hydrogen sulfide (HS), known since the late 19th century, was re-investigated by J. A. Olabe and co-workers (Chem. Eur. J. 2011, 17, 4145), where the putative new species with nitrososulfide ligands were characterized ([Fe(CN) N(O)SH] with λ = 570 nm and Fe(CN)N(O)S] with λ = 535 nm; pK=10.5±0.1). In our Correspondence we provide evidence that questions the chemical character of those species and call for further, more physiologically relevant studies. © 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
