The non-destructive testing of compound materials, especially glass-fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP) with millimetrewaves looks very promising. This paper investigates an imaging system which evaluates the cross-polarized signal in the W-Band from 75 to 110 GHz with a synthetic aperture radar. As anomalies reflect the incoming signal in the parallel and orthogonal polarization, it has some advantages for defect detection. It was possible to locate all defects in the measured samples even in depths of up to 14.5mm in GFRP with diameters of down to 5 mm.
