Abstract

Secondary surveillance radar is an important part of air traffic control nowadays. Modern receivers use an antenna array to estimate the direction of the arriving signal in order to increase the reliability of the received aircraft positions. In this paper a versatile multi-channel signal generator for testing these receivers is presented. The requirements for such a system are explained followed by the description of the hardware and software design and the automatic self calibration process. Finally the measurement results of the output signals are presented. © 2013 EMA.
