Since polymers are known to be responsible for the emergence of important properties and the microstructure in mortar systems, our focus was on the influence of the polymer PDADAC on cement hydration. The examinations were focused specifically on the formation of the phase ettringite which is generated during the hydration of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC). The investigations of the formation of ettringite in the presence of PDAMAC were carried out by means of X-ray diffraction analysis in combination with Rietveld refinement. During hydration of OPC in the presence of low PDADMAC concentrations no significant changes of the ettringite lattice parameters could be determined. After synthesis of pure ettringites only a very small increase of the lattice parameter a occurs, likely due to chloride incorporation. © by Oldenbourg Wissenschaftsverlag, München.
