Abstract

In the existing practice, use of computers in the area of lightning protection is very often reduced on the use of applications that are not prepared exclusively for the purpose of projecting the air termination system for the lightning protection. Because of that, the output is usually only an illustration of solution that is previously calculated. On the other hand, in all areas of designing, the solutions usually are not unique, so it is impossible to exclude presence of a person who will make final decision. Main intention of the work that will be performed here is to present the possibility (or possibilities) of use of an computer application in order to make projecting of air termination systems faster and easier, with acceptable accuracy. Basic idea, used models and methods will be illustrated on an example of designing air termination system of real, yet existing high voltage substation.
