In recent years, much research has been devoted to the improvement of telemedicine. As an introduction of the workshop the first talk will review the basics of telemedicine and medical sensor applications. Central challenges and several system concepts will be introduced and their pros and cons will be discussed. Favorable health care needs completely imperceptible and maintenance free sensor devices. Especially long term monitoring sensors have to meet this requirement. A promising solution is an implantable sensor system. The permittivity of body tissue and the desired distance to a remote station confronts the technology with several challenges. In addition a local data platform will be presented, which has to realize the interaction between sensors and a cellular network.
