Scientific Abstract
This project investigates how MS-specific environmental and host factors drive intestinal epithelial barrier (IEB) dysfunction. By elucidating transcriptional, secretomic, and functional changes in the IEB during neuroinflammation, we aim to identify key pathways along the microbiome-gut-brain axis that could serve as therapeutic targets. Understanding how microbial metabolites, cytokines, and ENS signals modulate the IEB will provide critical insights for early intervention in MS.
