Scientific Abstract

The main aim of this project is to examine pre-service teachers’ perceptions of chatbot use and the effects of chatbots on cognitive activation in digital learning environments. In this context, the study investigates how pre-service teachers perceive chatbots, how they experience these tools during the learning process, and how they evaluate the digital models used within the project.

A pretest–posttest experimental design with a control group was employed as the research method. To collect the data, two measurement instruments were developed. The first instrument is the General Chatbot Acceptance, Enjoyment, Perceived Risk and Value (G-CAVS) scale, which was developed to assess pre-service teachers’ perceptions of chatbot use. The second instrument is a four-item cognitive activation questionnaire.

The scale development process, including a pilot study, was conducted with a total of 320 participants. The experimental study was carried out with 124 pre-service teachers, consisting of 64 participants in the experimental group and 60 participants in the control group. The analysis of the experimental data is currently ongoing, and the findings are expected to contribute to evidence-based evaluations of chatbot use in teacher education.
