Scientific Abstract

Early Christianity has its roots in ancient Judaism. In recent years, this has increasingly become clear in New Testament research as compared to older scholarly opinions. It is part of an intensive discussion that has been conducted under the heading of the so-called “Parting of the Ways” and concerns the question of when Judaism and Christianity became independent movements. The conference is dedicated to investigating the relationship between ancient Judaism and emerging Christianity. International, proven experts will examine this fascinating topic from different perspectives (e.g. reception of Scripture, Jewish traditions and customs, archaeology). This will provide an in-depth insight into ancient Judaism with its various groups and movements. Finally, the conference will ask what potential the ancient traditions have for shaping today’s Christian-Jewish dialog. In view of modern religious and cultural contacts, the conference will also shed light on the relationship of Muslim texts to Judaism and Christianity.
