Project details

Short description

In the first funding period of the Research Unit FOR 2990 we have started to search for missing supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Milky Way in the X-ray band and to study the highly significant SNR candidates of the ROSAT all-sky survey and the H.E.S.S. Galactic plane survey using eRASS data. We will continue the systematic study of the population of SNRs in our Milky Way by complementing the eRASS data with data of the new ASKAP EMU/POSSUM survey and the MeerKAT Galatic plane radio survey. eRASS results will also be combined with gamma-ray data to study particle acceleration in selected SNRs. After having also studied the SNR populations in the Magellanic Clouds in the first funding period, we will extend the analysis to the Magellanic System.
