This Summer School enabled a detailed interdisciplinary discussion of a fundamental development in the world of work, the "monitoring" of employees through digital media. This is done, for example, by directly monitoring employees (through cameras etc.), "tracking" the location of employees, log file analyses of activities, tracing past activities in social media or even movement studies (e.g. in sports).
This Summer School enabled a detailed interdisciplinary discussion of a fundamental development in the world of work, the "monitoring" of employees through digital media. This is done, for example, by directly monitoring employees (through cameras etc.), "tracking" the location of employees, log file analyses of activities, tracing past activities in social media or even movement studies (e.g. in sports). The rapid development of new digital technologies and the opportunities for storing and processing complex data ("big data") are creating numerous opportunities for innovation, but also individual and social risks. An interdisciplinary perspective on this development is essential, encompassing technologies and law as well as innovation research, technology assessment (for example, through sociology and psychology) and management problems of companies.
