In developed nations vascular diseases are a major public health issue. The LSS is computing the haemodynamics in weakened blood vessels, in particular aneurysms, in cooperation with the Clinic for Neuroradiology in Erlangen, the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and the Chair for Pattern Recognition. The simulation is done using a Lattice Boltzmann method, which is adapted to the special geometry. Resulting data like pressure, velocity and shear stress may give information about development and treatment of these aneurysms. To accelerate the simulation, the method is investigated on supercomputers, amongst others on the cell processor, which is known from Playstation 3.
