The data set includes the corpus of Goodreads posts analyzed in the dissertation “Whiteness as Usual? The Racial Politics of the 21st-Century Prize Novel.” For each novel examined, twenty Goodreads posts published before and after the respective award announcements have been collected. For The Known World, forty posts after the award announcement have been collected, since Goodreads did not exist yet in the period before the award announcement. The order of the posts is the same as it appeared on Goodreads when filtered through “English only” and sorted according to “popularity.” The user names were replaced by pseudonyms in the dissertation. A list of pseudonyms for the user names is also included in this data set.
